Introduction to the Online Learning Platform

This free online learning platform is specifically designed for healthcare and social work professionals to assist you in providing the most appropriate support to parents who have experienced pregnancy loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death.

Pregnancy loss is a painful experience, and the support you provide plays an essential role in helping parents get through this difficult period. We appreciate that you are willing to take the time to review the care you provide for parents who have experienced a miscarriage, despite your busy schedule.

We hope this resource can help you better understand the experience of pregnancy loss and how to provide appropriate support to parents. If you successfully register as a member, you can access all the online learning resources.

Objectives

Through online learning, we hope to promote the following outcomes for helping professionals:

  • Understanding pregnancy loss, including its prevalence and impact on bereaved parents in Hong Kong.
  • Enhancing competency and communication skills in providing bereavement support for pregnancy loss.
  • Providing bereavement support and care for bereaved parents after pregnancy loss.
  • Understanding community facilities and resources for pregnancy loss.

Content

The content of this online learning platform is provided by a group of scholars, healthcare and social work professionals, and parents who have experienced pregnancy loss. The content includes the following in two parts:

Understanding Pregnancy Loss (Part 1)Bereavement Support for Parents who have experienced Pregnancy Loss (Available only in the membership page)
  • Definition and prevalence of pregnancy loss
  • Myths, misconceptions, and causes of miscarriage and stillbirth
  • Expectations of community support for bereaved parents who have experienced pregnancy loss
  • Community facilities and support for pregnancy loss (psychological, social, and peer support)
  • Understanding Pregnancy Loss (Part 2): grief after pregnancy loss
  • Sharing of experiences by eight parents who have experienced pregnancy loss
  • Self-competence and communication skills in providing support for those after pregnancy loss
  • Bereavement support and care for parents who have experienced pregnancy loss
